Dormer
BRM Design and Build offer a wide spectrum of services, including versatile and popular dormer conversions.
Ideal for those houses with lower roof lines a dormer is a roofed structure, usually with a window, which projects vertically past the plane of a pitched roof. Dormers are ideal for increasing space in lofts in order to create window openings. Create space in your loft and bring in as much natural light as possible with a modern dormer window, to generate a relaxed and comfortable living space in your home.
Hip To Gable
The roofs of most homes are ‘hipped’, which means that one side of the roof is sloped. While this is a very common roofing type, it does make loft space somewhat limited, which is where hip-to-gable loft conversions come in. A hip-to-gable is best if your loft space is somewhat limited by a hip-ended roof-line. This is achieved by changing the sloping or hipped roof to create a vertical gable. As a result, you will have a lot more loft space and significantly more floor space. Find out how we can help you achieve a hip-to-gable conversion.
For properties with two sloping sides on their roofs, a double hip to gable conversion is required. They can take slightly longer but our expert team will ensure that every single aspect is taken care of and completed to the highest standard.
If you have a hipped roof on your property, it doesn’t mean you have to discard your dreams of turning your loft into a functional room, a guest room, study or a lounge. Get in touch to see how we can bring your dreams into a reality.
Mansard
Mansard loft conversions often require more construction work than other types of loft conversions but can result in creating a great deal of extra living space in your home, whatever type of property you own.
Mansard loft conversions can be thought of as an extension across the entire plane of your property’s roof. Often found at the rear of properties, this type of conversion changes the sloping side of your roof to an almost vertical side – one of at least 72 degrees. The roof is flat and windows are typically housed within small dormers.
Planning permission is almost always required for this type of extension. These conversions create maximum living space within your roof by effectively creating another storey to your property. As this results in changes to the roof shape and structure, it is highly likely that planning permission will be required from your local authority.
